The business grew from a chance meeting with a bird, when founder Bob Novak, a computer programmer, was introduced to a co-worker’s tame and talking parrot, then Bob & his wife Cathy found Herby an amazon parrot, it was love at first sight, and soon Bob’s enchantment led to owning several pet birds of his own including "Little Grey" who they shared their lives with for over 30 years. The passion led to opening a bird specialty store in Bayshore LI, NY in 1974, the genesis of the Pets Warehouse superstores that serves all types of pets today.
