It all began in 1945 when Manuel de Almeida Jorge, master craftsman in footwear, first started producing quality shoes under the Mariano marque. From the small village of São João da Madeira in the north of Portugal, the heart of traditional Portuguese footwear, his creations would soon grow in renown to become synonymous with craftmanship and contemporary design.
Today, more than 75 years since Manuel’s legacy began, his family keeps his artisan spirit alive by staying true to his commitment to produce high-quality, handcrafted shoes. Working from the original site at Rua Jaime Afreixo, four generations later, Mariano continues to produce footwear for the discerning customer the world over, through the skilled and gifted hands of our artisans.
