Grillstream originated in the mid-2000s in Birmingham, where an innovative barbecue system was developed during an early prototype phase.
The core idea was a dual-layer grill design that channels fat away from flames to prevent flare-ups while enhancing flavour through vaporisation. This technological concept became the foundation of the brand and distinguished it from conventional barbecues focused purely on heat control rather than cooking mechanics.
In 2009, Grillstream formally entered the market following the patenting of its grill system, marking its transition from concept to commercial product. That same year, the brand gained national visibility through an appearance on the television programme Dragons' Den. Although the pitch did not result in investment, it generated substantial public interest and helped validate the commercial potential of the product.
By 2010, Grillstream entered mass production and wide retail distribution, shifting Grillstream from a small independent operation into a nationally recognised brand. The licensing model also allowed the technology to reach international markets, extending its footprint beyond the UK.
Throughout the early and mid-2010s, Grillstream established itself across garden centres, specialist BBQ retailers, and larger retail chains. During this period, the brand emphasised its identity as a “no flare-up” grilling solution, appealing to consumers seeking ease of use and consistent results. Product development accelerated, introducing innovations such as hybrid barbecues that combine gas and charcoal cooking, as well as modular cooking systems that expanded versatility.
In the late 2010s, Grillstream continued to expand its product range and became fully integrated into LeisureGrow’s portfolio, enabling operations and growth to continue uninterrupted under this larger corporate structure.
Since 2020, Grillstream has operated as an established UK barbecue brand within LeisureGrow, focusing on incremental innovation and broader product ecosystems, including hybrid grills, outdoor kitchen solutions, and enhanced cooking accessories. Today, it is positioned as a mid-to-premium UK BBQ brand, widely distributed and recognised for its patented grilling technology and hybrid cooking approach, maintaining its original emphasis on reducing flare-ups while improving cooking performance.
